a great venue for tango
saturday the tango community hosted a milonga at the red house theater. it's a great venue, with beautifully exposed brick an amazing wood floor to dance on. being that this is taipei, someone has put the images on facebook, but you have to login first.

mosquitos and rain
last night i went to Spot with a friend. It used to be the home of the US Ambassador, back when Taiwan was recognized as the rightful and legitimate China. It is now an arts cinema house, with a coffee bar (Cafe Luminere) and bar (Red Balloon). We sat at the bar, and it was loaded with mosquitos. So much so that the staff passed around the electric mosquito racquets. And boy was I good. Every time I waved it, the popping sounds kept happening (each pop is a single mosquito electrocution). I was so good that the neighboring tables started cheering me on. :) all their drinks are very creatively named. below is an image of what my friend had, which is a mix of white wine and cassis (blood-red, sweet, blackcurrant flavored liqueur)
as i got home, it started pouring. fortunately, the loud clanging that i had complained of last week, which was to fix the roof and the rain gutters, have fixed the noisy dripping when it rains. so last night, i barely heard the rain and slept well.

a day trip
my grandparents took me to shenkeng sunday. it's known for its stinky tofu. of all kinds, not just the fried stuff you normally find. they grill them, boil them, steam them, etc. the one that we tried, has been opened since 1956. they started as a small stand in front of the temple, and now cover 3 entire storefronts across the temple, including their original location. and boy was it stinky and good. yum :)
and i took pictures!
